Ask Olisi Friday's: Age Appropriate Jeans

Greetings Stampees!  It's that time of week.  Ask Olisi Friday's is here!!!  This question hails from Olivia in DC.
I'm a 60 year old woman who loves to be comfortable and wear jeans.  However, I always want to make sure that I'm not too trendy and wear the appropriate styles for my age.  Any suggestions Olisi?
Olivia, this is a great question.  No matter the age, women need and want to be comfortable in their own skin and most women like to do it with style. I always emphasize to my clients that it's not always what you're wearing, but how you wear it.  Here are three sets I have put together to help you execute wearing trendy and classic jeans with style at your age.
How to Wear Jeans After 50
First set: Classic Button Up + Flared Jean = Classic Chic
Second set:  Wrap Sweater + Straight Leg Jean = Relaxed & Timeless
Third set: Orange Cardigan + Boyfriend Jean = Veteran Trendsetter

The key to pulling off different trends at any age is mixing in classic pieces.  Also, always remember to pick the jean cut that is most flattering to you.  For example, if you're short, wear straight, longer lengths and pair with heels.  If you're curvy, flares and jeans with a bit a stretch are your friend.

I would love to talk to you in more detail to give you more of a customized synopsis.  Feel free to email me at for more details.  Also, since you are in the DC area, please feel free to come to our FREE Dexterous Diva Style Swap.  You can register here on my site or here!

Olivia, I pronounced you STAMPED!  Please keep me posted on your jean journey.  I'm sure with these basic tips you will be hitting the streets Stamped with style!

Ask Olisi Friday's: Frugal Shopping Spots

Hello Stampees!  It's that time of the week!  That's right, Ask Olisi Friday's is here!  This question comes from Linda in Arlington, VA.
What places would you recommend I shop for myself without breaking my wallet?
Linda, you sound like a girl after my own heart.  I love to shop, but I also enjoy being frugal.  It is possible to do both.  I'm a firm believer that you can look like a million bucks without spending it! I'm going to provide you with my top three favorite places to shop on a budget.  I will also give recommendations as to what each store is good for.
  1. H&M - I practically live in this store.  I appreciate how H&M has mastered the art of mixing trendy and classic pieces for a fraction of the price.  Check out one of my favorites from the Conscious Collection below, which features chemical free organic cotton, that is very chic and budget friendly.  Check out the rest of the collection here!  H&M also has great trendy accessories on a dime.
  2. The Gap - T-Shirt?  Jeans?  Yeah?  This is the place to go.  I know of many people that feel that they have to spend a ton of money on jeans, but I love Gap jeans.  They have good fits for almost anyone and most pairs are less than $80!  A good investment that doesn't necessarily feel like one.
  3. Zara - I have absolutely fallen in love with a lot of Zara shoes lately.  They have a good collection and a lot of their shoes are leather.  I find you can always find some cheap shoes, but they tend to look like it too.  Zara is a good place to go to find a nice leather pump or sandal without having to spend Choo or Louboutin money!!!
H&M Lace Skirt - $14.95
GAP Skinny Jean - $69.95
Zara Pink Cap Toe - $89.90

Also I love shopping thrift, vintage and consignment stores.  If you're up for the task, you can find some very good ones in the DMV area.  Here are a few of my favorites:  Unique Thrift, Junction and Clothes Encounters of a Second Kind. Another good tip is to do some online shopping with designer discount sites like: Ruelala, Ideeli and Hautelook to name a few.  Oh and did I almost forget to mention TJ Maxx and Marshalls?!?! You'll be surprised at some of the designer gems you can cop there.  So don't fret my lady!  There is plenty of shopping for you to do on a budget.  If you're looking for more ideas, please come join SOS and B Dexterous for our Style & Swap Fashion event on May 5, 2012.  You can register for free right here on my site. ---->

Linda, I hope I was able to send you in the right direction on your frugal shopping journey.  Please keep me posted.  If you would like a more detailed report customized for you, please reach me at

I pronounce you STAMPED Linda, now share the love!

Ask Olisi Friday's: Mixing Prints???

Hello Stampees!  I'm back!  It's time for Ask Olisi Friday's!!!!  This questions hails from Jasmine in Maryland:
How can I have fun with mixing prints without looking crazy?
Jasmine, this is a great question.  I've noticed many people mixing prints with poor execution.  The key to making this trend work is simply, keeping it SIMPLE.  There are three sure-fire easy ways to execute this...
  1. Keep the prints in the same color family. This happens to be one of the easiest ways to go.  I find myself using this method the most.  See an example here.
  2. Balance the prints.  You can do this by keeping one of the prints neutral and the other in a bright color.
  3. Mix in Accessories.  This is a great option if you're just trying to get your feet wet.  Maybe mixing in a animal print scarf or a bangle with a graphic blouse or pant.
Here are three visuals for the three ways provided:

1. Whitney Port - Mixing Prints in the Same Color Family
2. Diane Kruger - Doing a great job of balancing the prints
3. Solange - Master of mixing prints.  In this case with an accessory, her scarf!

Here are a few other tips:
  • Wear the bigger/bolder print on the part of your body you don't mind emphasizing.  Meaning, if you have a small bust, wear the bolder print on the top and vice versa.
  • Always make sure you wear clothing that flatters your shape and skin tone.
  • Rock the outfit with confidence.  No one will believe you if you don't believe it yourself.  Own it!
If you follow these guidelines, you're sure to turn heads.  I hope my answer helped you. Want a more detailed analysis? Email me at!

Jasmine, I now pronounce you STAMPED.  Now, share the love!  Please keep me posted on your journey for finding your right print style.

Ask Olisi Friday's: Styling for the Short & Curvy

Hello Stampees!  You know what time it is???  Yeah that's right, it's time for Ask Olisi Friday's! This week's question comes from Cydni from DC:
I am a short curvy woman. I've noticed most of the trendy styles do not work for my shape. Do you have any suggestions for a person like me to stay on trend?
Well first off Cydni, there are plenty of trends you can wear as a short curvy woman.  The big concern should be the execution of the trend.  Here are five things you can do within the ever changing trends to be flattering for your figure.

  1. Wear tailored clothing.  I can't emphasize that enough. Clothing that is overwhelming (too big) can make you appear larger and clothing that is too tight can have the same effect. Well fitted clothing accentuates your curves.  This is especially true with jackets and pants.  Make sure that your jacket is waist length to accentuate your waist and your pants have a slight flare to balance out your hips. Which leads me to my next point...
  2. Celebrate your waist.  A small waist is something to be proud of.  Wear shirts and dresses that show it off.  Wrap shirts and dresses are your friend.  Also, wear belts!!!  Avoid empire waistlines/high waisted clothing.  Instead, look for clothing with princess seaming.  This will steamline your look and draw attention to your waist.  The peplum trend is great for showing off your waist too.
  3. Dress well underneath.  Make sure your bra is the correct size.  If you're not sure, go get measured.  This can make a world of a difference in how your clothes look on the outside.  A well fitted bra and great shapewear can be the difference between your outfit being a hit or miss.
  4. Elongate your legs.  I absolutely love this trick.  You can make yourself appear taller by wearing a nude shoe in the color of your skin and/or wearing tights and shoes in the same color.  Also, opt for pointed toe shoes over round.  This will extend your leg line even further.
  5. Pick the right accessories.  The final touches mean so much.  Have fun with the jewelry.  Wear a chunky piece around your neck to flatter your neckline.  Stack your bracelets (I love this trend).  Also, pick the right bag because this is what anchors your outfit.  Avoid very small shoulder bags which can get can lost in the sauce.  Opt for a nice size hobo or an oversized clutch to stay on trend.
Cydni, here are some other quick tips.  Wear v-neck shirts to extend your neckline, very flattering.  Also, A-line with a fitted waistline and pencil skirts are great for your shape.  Don't be afraid of color & prints!  Here are some of my trendy picks that I think would be great for your curves.

Asos Floral Jacket
Top Shop Neon Biker Jacket

F21 Floral Blouse
H&M Orange Wrap Blouse

Dorothy Perkins Yellow Buttercup Dress
GAP Pink Wrap Dress

Mod Cloth A-Line Skirt
NY&Co. Black & White Print Pencil Skirt

GAP Grey Flat Front Trouser
White House|Black Market Red Crepe Pant

So Cydni, as you can see from the pictures above, you can wear trendy items.  There is color, floral, prints and excitement in all these pieces!  I also tried to show you that you can have fun with the trends in classic pieces like with the pencil skirt and crepe pant.  I will tell you what I tell all my clients, attitude is everything.  You have to be confident in your clothing.  So rock the trends and show off those curves!  I hope the information I provided was helpful to you.  If you would like to learn more, please contact me and I'll be happy to assist.

Cydni, I now pronounce you STAMPED.  Now, share the love!  Please keep me posted on your journey to find clothing for your short & curvalicious body ;)
